In my opinion imagination is the ability to create things using only your mind and memories, for example Plato's theory of forms. He defended that non-physical things, That is, your imagination, represent a perfect reality. So being able to imagine is being able to build a perfect world inside your mind.
Imagination is the ability of the mind to build things that don't exist, something that isn't perceived by the senses. And knowledge is the ability to understand or comprehend skills, facts or informations, all of us can imagine a robot but very few of us can actually build one. That is because it takes knowledge to make a robot work, and it is the same with all of our other ideas. Knowledge is the fuel for imagination to become reality. Therefore imagination motivates us to learn new things every day, when we imagine an ideal situation that doesn't exist we use knowledge to make that situation possible. And if we don't know enough to do so, we tend to go after that knowledge.
Knowledge comes from experience, in other words, from things you've lived, felt or things other people have taught you. And experience is part of human nature, every human being experiences things, therefore everyone has knowledge.
Without imagination we wouldn't be able to innovate or create new technology. However what makes it possible to bring our ideas to the real world?
Like a cake needs flour, imagination needs knowledge. And life is like a bakery, there is a huge variety of flavors and all of them a equally important. Each individual experiences different things and that's what makes this variety so interesting.
Walking on the moon was a dream, created and imagined by millions of people. On July 20th of 1969 the world witnessed this dream come true. Neil Armstrong became the first man to ever walk on the moon. It took knowledge to take him there, people had to get out of their comfort zones to find this knowledge. And then, walking on the moon became a part of human knowledge. So knowledge and imagination together mean evolution.
